Question by : Can people join a college photography course with a film rangefinder camera?
I.e. college courses that require a 35mm slr camera.

I don’t see why not. Those courses require a camera with full control over shutter speed and aperture, preferably with a built-in meter. Most rangefinders meet those criteria.
You will need some mental flexibility when it comes to subjects like zoom and what you see in the viewfinder.
