Laser Rangefinders: How It Works | zoniescloset.com

Nikon Callaway LR550 Golf Laser Rangefinder-Yellow- NEWLaser Rangefinder is a gadget used for measuring the distance of a particular object from the user. You must wonder how it works. So, here is a short account about the process how does its function.

Laser Rangefinders use a narrow laser which stays invisible. It is pointed at the thing which then reflects off the laser beam back to the rangefinder. “The Time-Flight” technology is used here. With the help of a high speed clock the time that the pulse took for reflecting back to the sender is measured. Then by calculating a mathematical equation the distance between the object and the instrument or the user is determined. Often the super fast speed of light acts as a barrier to the proper measurement of sub-millimeters. The pulse is also coded so that the rangefinder doesn’t get jammed. Doppler effects can enable it to judge if the target object is moving or not and even the speed of movement. The rangefinders’ precision is measured by the laser pulse’s rise time and as well as fall time. This is how it works.
