The main purpose of using a rangefinder when playing golf is to get the distance to any feature or object in the golf course such as the flag with the least effort possible. There are two main types of golf range finders available in the market today: the laser rangefinder and the GPS rangefinder.

Although many people are using GPS rangefinder, numerous golf enthusiasts still prefer the laser type for various reasons. With laser rangefinders, you would only have to pay once: the amount of the unit at the time you make the purchase. With GPS types on the other hand, you would need to pay for membership and other extra fees every time you use the device. Rangefinders come with different features, models and brands and choosing the right rangefinder will just be a matter of preference and need. If you play in the rain for example, then you would want a waterproof rangefinder. If you often join tournaments you can choose a unit with a slope mode.

If you know that your hands are not steady enough to hold the laser rangefinder and point it towards a surface, then you may be better off with a GPS rangefinder.
